We promote reward based training and provide a training programme that enables you to understand how dogs learn and use that information to help you to gain and maintain a lasting and trusting relationship with your dog.
There are two qualified instructors at K9 Pursuits this gives us an opportunity to give individual attention throughout the course.
We take any breed of dog and start training from fourteen weeks old.
All dogs MUST be fully vaccinated and we will ask to see certificates of vaccination on the first evening of each course.
The training we Offer:
- We now offer home visits
- One week intensive course which is run over five consecutive evenings
- One to one training by arrangement
- We run training courses in Newton Aycliffe
We also run the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme. Further information on this scheme can be found here
How long is each class?
Week course: Starts at 6.15pm
Monday – 1 hour (attend without your dog)
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – 2 hours
Friday – 1 hour 30mins
One to One: 1 – 11/2 hour approx

The courses are run in 3 foundations.
Foundation 1
For dogs and handlers that have never done a course with us before.
If your dog is under one year old you will be assessed for the Kennel Club Puppy Foundation and if successful will be awarded with a certificate and a rosette. Dogs and handlers will be awarded a K9 Pursuits certificate if they successfully complete the course.
Foundation 2
For dogs and handlers that have successfully completed the Foundation 1.
Dogs and handlers on this course have the opportunity to work towards the Bronze Kennel Club Good Citizen Award. They will remain at the foundation 2 Level until successfully completing the bronze criteria. Dogs and handlers will be awarded a K9 Pursuits certificate if they successfully complete the course.
Foundation 3
For dogs and handlers that have gained the Bronze Kennel Club good citizen Award, or passed all criteria.
Dogs and handlers on this course will have the opportunity to work towards the Silver and Gold Kennel Club Good Citizen award.
How many dogs are in each class?
We limit the number of dogs in each session to no more than ten.
What activities are involved in the sessions?
The first evening of the foundation 1 is your induction. YOU DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG
We go through health and safety, discuss how dogs learn and explain why they do the things they do.
We demonstrate our methods to show you how they work.
We give you your training booklet that accompanies your course
The following evenings you are guided through a series of exercises that will help you to build a relationship with your dog and enable you to train him/her.
The foundation 2 and 3 involves bringing your dog each evening of the course and extending the exercises previously taught.
